Project Description: DWM recently completed a four-week commercial kitchen expansion for a grocery client, followed by additional change-order work requested after the original scope was finished.
To support increased store volume, the project added a new fryer, commercial grease hood, ductwork, and extractor fans. The work required extensive coordination across general construction, roofing, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and fire-suppression trades.
Because the store remained open throughout the project, all work was completed overnight. DWM coordinated shutdowns of water, electrical service, HVAC, and fire protection with store personnel so everyone knew what to expect and disruption was kept to a minimum.
One of the project’s biggest logistical challenges was maneuvering lifts into the kitchen to complete the structural steel and roof modifications. Even rain on the scheduled roof cut day did not cause a delay. The team used a break in the weather to safely keep the project moving.
DWM Site Superintendent Derrick Earvin performed the general construction work, including framing, FRP installation, and tile work, while coordinating five additional subcontractors, the fire-protection contractor, and the hood supplier. He also helped manage permitting and inspections while maintaining the careful sequencing required across every trade.
The project was delivered on schedule and within budget. The client’s construction team specifically recognized DWM’s communication, quality of finish, and commitment to completing the work promptly.
